Feb. 11 2011 A man killed in a crash with a Capital Metro bus has been identified as 43-year-old Paul Thomas Ray.
Ray was killed after police say a vehicle he was in crashed into a Capital Metro bus in the 8800 block of Georgian Drive in North Austin.
About a dozen people on the bus were hospitalized, officials said.
Austin police said Ray was driving a car that had been reported stolen and that an officer was trying to catch up to the car when the crash happened.
Spokeswoman Veneza Aguinaga said an officer observed what appeared to be a drug transaction about 1:30 p.m. in a motel parking lot near Powell Lane and Interstate 35 along the southbound frontage road.
The officer called for backup and began following the car with lights and siren on.
The officer was trying to reach the car, which was out of the officer’s sight, when the crash happened.
The bus driver was reportedly in serious condition.
None of the injured suffered life-threatening injuries, he said.
Two of the victims were children.
