Lorry Driver & Co-Worker Died In Crash Two died and one was injured in a crash involving three vehicles including two lorries at KM 294.8 of the North South Highway (PLUS) heading north, near Gopeng this morning. In the incident, Y. K. K, 53, who was driving the chicken cage lorry and A. R. M. D, 39, who was driving the lorry, died at the scene. Kampar District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud said, said the crash involved a lorry carrying a load of chicken cages that the two victims were riding in and another lorry carrying a load of rocks. He said that the two victims who died were the driver and driver of a lorry carrying a load of chicken cages while the one injured was a man driving a lorry loaded with stones. He said, the initial investigation found that when he arrived at the scene of the incident, the chicken cage lorry suddenly hit the back of the stone-laden lorry while both lorries were in the left lane. According to him, the violation resulted in a small fire in the chicken cage truck, but the fire was extinguished by the fire brigade that arrived at the scene. "The driver and kelindar were stuck in the chicken cage lorry and were successfully removed by the firemen. However, they were confirmed dead by the paramedic team. While the driver of the lorry loaded with stones was taken by ambulance to the hospital due to injuries," he said in a statement today. According to Mohamad Nazri, the accident resulted in the northbound left lane being closed for investigation work as well as cleaning work by the fire department and PLUS Malaysia Berhad. According to him, the cause of the accident is still under investigation with the case being investigated in accordance with Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987. In the meantime, Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the crash caused the lorry loaded with chicken cages to catch fire approximately 40 percent, with the firemen successfully removing the two victims and extinguishing the fire until the fire can be completely extinguished. Meanwhile, PLUS informed that the incident resulted in traffic congestion for 10 kilometers (km) when both northbound lanes were closed at 10.23am with both lanes fully opened at 1.31pm this afternoon. |
