Like a Deer in the Headlight
A man was run over while trying to cross outside the lane on Avenida Beira Rio, at the end of the Murilo Domingos viaduct, on Thursday afternoon (10). The Fiat Brava driver tried to swerve, but ended up hitting the pedestrian violently. The victim was rescued by a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and taken to the hospital. There are no details about his health status. The car goes down the viaduct in the left lane, next to the median, at which time the pedestrian crosses running and is hit. The driver appears to have been surprised by the pedestrian who suddenly crossed the road, but even when trying to brake, he was unable to swerve in time and avoid the crash. A woman was crossing with a child in the same place, outside the lane and even witnessing the accident, they risk crossing in an inappropriate place. Just in front of the accident site, there is a crosswalk, but even so, people cross the avenue in an unsafe and incorrect way. Irregularity can cause a tragedy. |

Re: Like a Deer in the Headlight
~ That man is so stupid! He could have just crossed, then safely waited in the middle where the divider is clearly marked, for clear traffic, but chose instead to just mingle in with the oncoming thru traffic. ~ Notice how both roads, for opposite directions, look exactly the same, at the same corresponding medians. Transportation engineering must not have known which direction traffic was going to be assigned at the time of construction, so they got built the same. |
