Jail Sentence for Foreign Truck Driver That Crashed into Stationary Traffic
Dash cam footage released by Kent Police has shown a lorry crash into the back of stationary traffic on the A2 between Canterbury and Dover. The lorry driver involved in the collision admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the rush-hour road traffic collision near Canterbury and has been jailed. Vygantas Stanulis, aged 55, from Lithuania, was given a 12 month prison sentence when he appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday October 3. He had been driving a Mercedes articulated lorry along the coast-bound carriageway of the A2 towards Dover when he hit a line of stationary traffic at Harbledown at 8.35am on January 19. She said: "A dash camera in the Mercedes lorry showed that Stanulis was driving at around 50 mph just before the collision." Witnesses said the lorry did not slow down as it approached the line of traffic. Stanulis only attempted to brake about half a second before colliding with the Fiesta. Police Constable Weller said: "Stanulis told us he had taken his eyes off the road for a second to look at two lorries parked in a layby. He described it as a momentary lapse in concentration." She said the lorry driver had shown remorse for the victim throughout the police investigation. "Stanulis didn't set out that morning to cause harm and he is still coming to terms with what happened," she added. "The victim still faces operations on his face and knee and will live with the consequences of this collision for a long time. It just goes to show that any lapse in concentration when driving can have devastating consequences." |

Re: Jail Sentence for Foreign Truck Driver That Crashed into Stationary Traffic
If my memory serves me right, the driver of the Fiesta was leaning over to his bag in the passenger footwell when the truck hit his car. If it hadn't been for that then they probably would have suffered massive head injuries when the car was pushed under the truck in front and very likely been killed. Going under a truck is rarely survivable...
