Italian Ammo Plant on Fire Explodes
On Thursday, August 13, 2026, a fire followed by a powerful explosion struck the KNDS Ammo Italy munitions plant in Colleferro, located roughly 40 kilometers southeast of Rome. There were no reported injuries or deaths. Employees safely sheltered in secure areas, and a larger disaster was avoided because the plant was mostly inactive due to the summer holiday. The fire originated in the facility's powder compaction and pressing department. Firefighters and police were already on-site addressing the initial fire when the large blast occurred. It manufactures medium and large caliber ammunition for land and naval defense, solid propellants for aerospace vehicles, and supplies artillery ammunition to Ukraine. |
