He pledged to "restore peace" in a country torn by a violent drug gang war. Ecuador, traditionally a peaceful buffer between cocaine-exporting countries Colombia and Peru, has recently witnessed a surge in violence as rival gangs, with links to Mexican and Colombian cartels, fought for control. This conflict led to prison massacres and gruesome street violence. Noboa aims to rebuild the nation, focusing on peace, education, and job creation in the wake of his victory and his opponent's concession. great post.  i cried laughing at the first sentence before i even got to the meat of the post. it's so peculiar. hundreds(?) of people honking in celebration... a millionaire, heir to the vast riches of a banana empire, becomes the youngest president... in Ecuador...? i'm still laughing. i might be alone. |

If you think about it, grocery stores nationwide stock year-round, a seemingly endless supply of near perfect bananas. A lot of people eat them, they are cheap, tasty and nutritious. They never have bugs. Consider the logistics of harvesting and shipping the bananas across continents, aging them and treating them so they show up at the store a few days away from perfect ripeness. The banana industry floors me and have have nothing but deep respect for Banana Emperors.
