You want to keep the revs as low as possible on ice, so 1st and 2nd are most definately NOT your friends! 3rd gear is good at as low a speed as possible. Neutral is a good shout to avoid sliding though it will reduce steering capability :) |

Never go in Neutral when you are sliding. Ever! Take the advice a fellow Canadian. You want lower gears, 1st/2nd to keep the best traction on ice/snow. Neutral you have absolutely no control, and are bagging to lose control. Low gear will give your wheels the best traction, while slowing the car down without using brakes. -- My skills! 35 years in rough Canadian weather pays off :P |

You can't be in low gear AND neutral. 1st gear and don't touch the brakes is best bet. Not easy to do as your reaction is to brake. |
