I remember a story from one of my old car books. Some farmer bought a Maxwell automobile, brand new. The next day, when he crank-started it, it ran him over and broke his neck and paralyzed him. It doesn't say if he died or not, but typically, people who were paralyzed from the neck down normally survived only about a week, at best. I think Patton only lasted about 10 days after his neck was broken in 1945.
