The ‘Watra’ restaurant in the highland resort of Zakopane caught fire in the early hours of Friday morning, injuring two people, leaving one person in a serious condition.

The fire broke out in the restaurant in downtown Zakopane after all the guests had left, at 1.20 am. Some 40 propane-butane cylinders were stored in the restaurant, of which four exploded in the fire.

“The wooden downstairs annex which adjoins the walled part of the building was completely burnt to the ground,” fire service spokesman in Zakopane,Andzrej Krol-Legowski, adding that 27 emergency fire units took part in putting out the blaze.

A total of five people were evacuated. One 60-year-old woman is an a serious condition, and was taken to hospital in Krakow.

The Polish Press Agency reports that the blast is not the first for in the popular restaurant, which has caught fire a number of times previously.
