Or he's a greybeard German Shepherd whose hips have gone to pot. I've known one of them and that bad hip limp is kind of familiar.

We had a rescue Weimaraner that had severe hip dysplasia. She looked like she was shakin' dat ass when she walked. She was in a lot of pain, though she didn't complain. Animals are so much tougher than hoomans.
