I was taught to steer slightly towards the other vehicle or they'll push you into what's next to you. Just slightly, not aggressively or it really will be a PIT. You're right, it does work, very well, I had someone do that to me when I was driving a Range Rover. The result, for me, was a few paint scrapes on the bull bar that came off with a little T-Cut. The result for them was a rather -shaped car with the shape of the bull bar clearly impressed into the side. I drove home, they went to the cop shop and their car went to the scrap yard in a bin bag ...
