Even though most fatalities are from head-on crashes, lateral collisions can be deadly because of the tertiary impact, when organs strike the inside of the body. Dude here has more chance of dying from abdominal injuries than he does from head injuries, and that's saying something. I'm wildly guessing that this was fatal.
