Guide Dog Saves Handler from Runaway Car

A guide dog-in-training is likely to have saved the lives of two people after alerting them to an out-of-control car speeding in their direction.
Video footage of the incident shows the Labrador, named O'Neil, leading two handlers down a footpath in California on Monday.
The dog can be seen turning around to the sound of a car speeding toward the trio from behind.
O’Neil alerts his blindfolded female handler, Danielle Alvarado, to the oncoming car by tugging at his lead and steering her around a corner.
Ms Alvarado’s training supervisor, Todd Jurek, also notices the car and can be seen pushing the woman around the corner and out of harm's way.

Re: Guide Dog Saves Handler from Runaway Car

Sensationalised nonsense. Yes, the dog saw the car first. And then froze, as it's trained to do with any approaching vehicle so as to stop the blind walking out into a busy intersection. It was the trainer who took the initiative to get them around the corner. Had it been just the dog and the blind, you'd have two casualties.

Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, but I know the difference between a real "dog saves life" story and a slow-news-day load of bollocks.

I think because the dog turned around sharply first this made the man look around hence the story that came out.

Still good footage anyway.

Re: Guide Dog Saves Handler from Runaway Car

The dog and the handler heard the crashing behind them and looked behind at the same time. The dog did not save their lives. The handler did and the dog was pulled along because of his lead. I wonder more what was crushed at the beginning of the crash. Something was run over and there's some kind of 'liquid' leaking from it. Was it an animal or something?
