Grenade Explodes Too Early During an Artillery Systems Test
A Colombian retraining Battalion were on a firing training exercise and some artillery systems tests were being carried out. According to the first investigations of the Command of the Third Division of the National Army, a grenade exploded when a failure occurred when firing the artillery system. 5 soldiers got injured, one was hit by shrapnel in the ankle. The others weren't seriously injured. |

Almost looks like the breech wasn't closed and locked. Can artillery pieces even be fired with a breech unlocked? Don't they have some kind of trigger interference if that happens?

When my unit went to NTC (Fort Irwin CA, death valley) a mortar team in my brigade had a 81mm round explode in the tube. 3 guys dead, instantly.

Colombia- Five soldiers were injured after the explosion of a grenade in the middle of artillery training that was going on inside a battalion in the municipality of Patía, Cauca. Through a statement, the Command of the Third Division of the National Army reported that it happened while an exercise was being carried out shooting training and test artillery systems, there would have been an error when firing a grenade. The tests that were carried out with the artillery system included firing with a 155 mm Howitzer, a type of cannon used by the Colombian Army; however, a failure in the first shot caused the weapon to explode , just as the soldiers were handling the device. In the event, three soldiers were injured and two others were injured, one by splinters in the ankle and another by stunning. The uniformed men were transferred to a hospital in El Bordo. According to General Rojas, all the soldiers are out of danger . "Some have some openings in their legs caused by the shock wave, one of the most hit has a wound in one of his arms, but all are out of danger," he explained. "At this moment, an inspection commission sent by the National Army Command is on the move, with a team of experts, who will verify the processes and procedures carried out in this exercise," the statement added.
