GMC Pickup Truck Driver Suffers a Medical Episode Crashing into a Home
A 60-year-old man driving a 2017 GMC pickup truck suffered a medical episode and crashed through the back corner of a Speegleville home Thursday afternoon. At about 12:15 p.m., the Valley Mills resident was driving north on Speegleville Road near the intersection of McFall Lane when he left the road, drove through a pasture and clipped the back corner of an unoccupied home. The man continued driving through the property and came to a stop in a nearby field. A FedEx driver said he witnessed the man driving at a high rate of speed as he was driving south on Speegleville Road and saw the car crash into the home. The FedEx driver said the man nearly hit a tree before striking the house. Witnesses reported that the man was conscious when emergency responders arrived. Troopers believe the man may have lost consciousness shortly before the crash. The man did not suffer any serious injuries from the crash, but he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of the medical condition officials believe led to the crash. The property owner posted surveillance footage from a security camera on social media Thursday afternoon showing the truck driving through the yard, then through the corner of his home. He said his family completed construction in April, and he, his wife and his 3-year-old recently moved in. “We only thought the construction was over,” he said. “ A firefighter with the Speegleville Volunteer Fire Department called me and told me there had been an accident and a gentleman hit our house with his truck, but I’ve always kept a level head until I know all the facts. When I got home, I saw the hole, and it’s a hole. It’s not that big of a deal.” He said the truck crashed through the couple’s master bedroom, knocking some pictures off the wall and damaging a couple of night stands. He said he has homeowner’s insurance and the driver was insured, so they will make arrangements to repair the home. “The good thing is that no one was seriously hurt,” he said. “Like my wife said, it is an inconvenience but it’s really going to be fine and we will get it repaired.” |
