Freight Train Plows into a Semi Truck Stuck on a Railroad Crossing
A freight train plowed into a semi-truck stuck on a rail crossing Monday in dramatic video captured by a Georgia woman. The big rig had been stuck on the crossing in Actworth, located 30 miles northwest of Atlanta, as the train approached. In the video the train can be heard blaring its horn before striking the truck and dragging it down the tracks. While the truck was destroyed in the crash, no injuries were reported. The truck is not stalled, it's stuck on its landing gear. This is a "no trucks" crossing, because the other side is steep, and the big rigs get stuck and can only be unstuck by a big rig tow truck. It happens at this crossing a few times a year, even though there are signs and a fine of$1000. This time there wasn't time to contact emergency services because the train was too close. Trains frequently take a while to stop, because inertia is a thing. The engineer did try to stop as soon as he rounded the curve, but physics wasn't on his side. |
