Franco Morbidelli will not be starting Sunday's Liqui Moly Grand Prix of Germany. The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider sustained a shoulder injury in a crash during the Sprint on Saturday afternoon, forcing him to sit out Sunday's race.

Franco Morbidelli suffered a heavy and nasty crash at Turn 8 of the German circuit on Saturday afternoon's Sprint on a soaking wet Sachsenring circuit.

The Italian subsequently complained of shoulder pain. After a checkup at the medical center and a visit to a hospital in nearby Chemnitz, it was determined that further participation in the weekend was unwise.

Morbidelli will return to Italy on Sunday for further treatment.

Whether the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider will recover in time to participate in the Czech Grand Prix in Brno next weekend is currently unknown.

In addition to Morbidelli, Maverick Viñales also suffered a shoulder injury earlier in the day at the Sachsenring on Saturday and, like Morbidelli, will not be at the start of Sunday's race.
