Flooded River Cause Road Collapse in Maine

Heavy rain is causing some major problems in the town of Freeport.

The Freeport Fire department says Desert Road has washed out and took a water main wtih it. This has caused a large portion of Freeport to loss water.

Also in Freeport Varney Road, Flying Point Road near Route 105 and the Brunswick Town line, Staples Point Road, Hunter Road, as well as sections of Route 125 are closed.

Route 88 between the Yarmouth and Cumberland town lines is closed in both directions because of high waters.

Freeport police tell us portions of Route 1 are also under water along with portions of Route 125.

They say some people in Freeport and Yarmouth are stranded because of flood waters.
Flying Point Road near Route 105 and the Brunswick town line is also flooded.

L.L. Bean is experiencing some water in the building. This is not because of river flooding but rather because of gutter problems.

If you live on one of the following roads in the town of Freeport officials are asking residents to please boil their water prior to using.

Varney Rd., Dessert Rd., Dessert Pines Rd., Dune Dr., and Webster Rd.

Also, the following roads are officially closed in the town of Freeport.

Chihock Rd., Varney Rd., Staples Point Rd., Griffin Rd. at Rt. 125, Old County Rd., Webster Rd., Flying Point Rd., Hunt Rd., Richards Lane, Trails End at Sequoia Dr., and Summer St.

In Yarmouth and North Yarmouth officials say overnight rains and rising of the Royal River have closed many roads there.

West and East Main Street are closed from 340 to 850. East/West Elm Street, Lafayette Road, Mount Fort Road are all closed because of flooding.
