Fleeing Felon in Car Rams into a Patrol Car During Pursuit
On Wednesday, August 21, 2019 Officers with the Crockett Police Department were dispatched to assist with a motor vehicle pursuit headed into the City of Crockett from Trinity, Texas. Pursuing units requested Crockett PD units to deploy stop sticks to help disable the vehicle. A third responding Crockett PD unit position a patrol unit in the intersection along with additional units to help try and divert the suspect, who was later identified as Leif Epperson Gonzales, 45, was allegedly armed, around Loop 304 and away from downtown Crockett. As can be seen in the video the suspect continued and attempted to drive through ultimately striking a Crockett Police Department unit. At the time of the collision the officer was not in the vehicle and just relocated to another position. The suspect was stopped and did not make it into the downtown area of Crockett. After the accident the suspect was removed from his vehicle and later transported to the Crockett Medical Center to be checked out for non life threatening injuries. There were no officers injured during this incident. The attached photos and videos show what our officers face on a daily basis. After being released from the hospital the suspect was transported back to Trinity County Jail where he will face multiple felony charges. |
