State Police have released a dash cam video showing the moment a driver on Route 9 struck a state trooper and firefighter Wednesday morning as they were helping at the scene of an earlier crash.

While they were at the scene, a 2014 Honda Accord "lost control on the curved roadway, traveled through the grass gore area and entered from the side of the scene of the prior motor vehicle accident," state police said in a news release.

State police said the driver of the Honda was charged with "numerous motor vehicle violations" in the crash. The exact charges against him were not immediately available.

The driver was not injured. Two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

So placing traffic cones around a crashed vehicle while people trying to help and standing halfway in the fast lane doesn't prevent other accidents to happen? How weird.

It called "Rubbernecking" where people stare at the pretty police emergency lights hoping to get a glimpse of blood and guts and/or body parts, and they just stop looking at the road or anything around them. It kills cops and Emergency Personnel every year. If people would just come to DR to satisfy all their Gory Needs, we would cut down on these kinds of accidents all over the globe!!

Its so called distracted driving from smart phone browsing while driving. Why else would someone approach a crash scene with flashing emergency vehicle lights at enough speed to lose control and crash?
