rexine. Whatever that might be.

Two persons died on the spot due to a blast that took place at a private plywood manufacturing company at Surampalli village in Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district on Thursday afternoon.
According to district fire officials, two men - father and son purchased and shifting used rexine tins from Jayaraj Enterprises, a plywood manufacturing unit at Aleap Industrial Estate in Surampalli when the incident happened. Officials said that they are yet to ascertain the cause behind the blast and suspect that the rexine tins might have caught fire somehow.
A fire tender from AS Nagar reached the spot and doused the flames. Meanwhile, Gannavaram police shifted the bodies to Vijayawada Government General Hospital for post-mortem. A case under section 174 of CrPC (unnatural death) was registered in this regard. District collector A Md Imtiaz ordered an inquiry into the incident.

REXINE!!! Of COURSE!! I should have known it! It's a material that comes in blue barrels and is used to reduce the employee population of failing plywood companies, by killing off the workers. Silly me!

Actually I have no clue what rexine is, but it is probably an oxidizer used to activate the epoxy that holds the layers of plywood together. Likely it is highly reactive, explosive, and very flammable. Of course, that is why they leave empty barrels of it laying around. And if the employees are hammering on the drums, with a piece of metal and a hammer, the results are as predictable as watching a Chinese guy ride a scooter near an open manhole cover, or a Russian drinking beer and flying a helicopter. Or a Pakistani doing electrical work on a high voltage tower.
I wonder if he could see his hovel from up there?

Re: Father and Son Killed in Explosion

Rexine is a trademarked name for an imitation leather which is made by covering a woven surface with cellulose nitrate along with other things such as camphor oil or alcohol. An example of Rexine is a cloth that looks like leather. YourDictionary definition and usage example.

Basically faux leather used in book binding and upholstery. Made of gun cotton and alcohol along with some other stuff. Poor man's pleather.
