A California driver endured what could be the quickest ever car wash after accidentally slamming his foot down on his gas pedal and blasting through an automated machine.

Dramatic surveillance footage shows what looks like a white Oldsmobile speeding towards the wash area at Quick Quack Car Wash in Sacramento.

But instead of coming to a stop so the vehicle could be soaped, it zooms straight through.

It clips cleaning apparatus and narrowly avoids hitting a startled employee, before coming out of the wash's other side.

The vehicle then crosses the parking lot and is finally brought to a halt after crashing into shrubs.

"The man who was driving the car was a freakin' 94 year-old man. After the accident, he told he didn't know what happened to his leg.

The man said he confused the gas and brake pedals. He then "got nervous, and couldn't stop," he added.

The driver denied medical treatment following the accident, and no-one else was injured.

"He waited for a family member or friend to pick him up after the accident and walked away," said site manager Mitch Shiveley.

Kimball said the broken pieces of the car wash were replaced with spare parts soon after, and that the business was able to re-open.

The company's insurance would pay the costs of any damage, which he believes will be between $60,000 and $100,000, he added.

Sacramento Police Department arrived at the scene following the smash, but an official report is yet to be filed.
