Explosion when Guy Carrying Hydrogen Party Balloons in Elevator
Mumbai. On February 2 a 21-year-old student Himani G. T. entered the elevator just as 32-year-old delivery worker Raju K.M. arrived with 10 to 12 hydrogen-filled balloons for a birthday. CCTV captured the balloons igniting from a likely static spark, engulfing the space in flames. Both suffered burns to arms, necks, and stomachs, while a third person escaped unharmed. Police filed a negligence case against the balloon shop owner, suspecting cost-cutting use of flammable hydrogen instead of safe helium, and are testing the gas to prevent future risks in confined spaces. |
