Shocking footage shows how close a 20-year-old came to certain death after he pushed through closed pedestrian gates at Cannon Hill station in Brisbane's east.

CCTV footage shows he waited for one train to pass but didn't see the second train coming when he tried to dart across the tracks.

The train was travelling at about 60km per hour.

He was later fined $2200 in court for entering a rail crossing when warning signs were operating.
