Similar thing happened to me 2 weeks ago (very similar) and all I can say is that insurance companies are shite...My car goes in for repair estimate tomorrow morning and they told me without even seeing my car it will prob be written off. Just because its a 22 year old Merc.

Insurance companies hate older cars, I have no idea why.
It's not hate so much as replacement value. An insurance company isn't going to pay more to fix a car than the car is worth. So old cars get written off a lot.

As for the video, eh, the front of a Beetle is the empty part. It's still drivable.

I knew all that stated above, but I still see my car as being as strong/safer as the more modern cars thats what upsets me...I love my Merc!

I have to disagree, there is no way a 22 Year old car is safer then a modern car, Cars have advanced so much in the past decade.
