I was surprised there was a fire. I was at a local gas station when some lady did this, and the hose just pulled out of a special socket on the pump, the pump shut down instantly, and that was all. No fire or other big event. The hose assembly was just laying on the concrete, with a quart or two of gasoline spread around. I asked the gas station attendant what happens next, and she said the service station pump company would come out and use a special tool to reinstall the hose socket. I imagine they would have to install a new seal as well, but I don't really know the specifics. Anyway, that incident was no big deal, but in the video with this post, it appears that gas is going everywhere and still pumping out when it lights off. So maybe this was an older generation pump without all the current safety features that they have now. It looked like a big deal in the video, the kind that people run away from quickly.
For sure, something's messed up when the fuel is spraying out like that, just begging for an ignition source!
