An Eastlake man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly drove drunk and hit a pole in the Eastlake Walmart parking lot.

At about 1:58 a.m., Eastlake Police responded to Walmart at 34440 Vine St. for a report of a red car that hit a handicap parking sign post then left towards the south side of the building.

While travelling to Walmart, police received a report of an incident that occurred earlier at The Captain’s Club, 34820 Vine St.

At the restaurant, a man had reportedly been kicked out for bringing in his own alcohol and smoking in the women’s bathroom, police said.

The male, identified by police as 30-year-old Russel Wilson, then smashed the manager’s car window and fled to Walmart where he allegedly crashed his car.

The suspect was then found in Walmart’s bathroom, bandaging his injuries with items purchased at the store, said police.

Wilson was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless operation and criminal damage.

He was released to a sober adult on a $3,500 personal bond.

Wilson is set to be arraigned in Willoughby Municipal Court on Tuesday.
