On August 29th last year, around 5 PM, a woman in Tainan was riding her bicycle home with her nephew when they were struck by a wanted drug-impaired driver who ran a red light.

Both aunt and nephew were thrown from their bikes and crashed into a utility pole, sustaining serious injuries.

Video of the incident circulated online, drawing widespread attention and prompting netizens to offer prayers for the victim and provide information on legal assistance.

Police stated that the serious accident occurred at approximately 5:00 PM on August 29th last year at the intersection of Section 2, Highway 1st Street, and Ziqiang Road in Yongkang District, Tainan.

The victim posted a video on social media, showing that she and her nephew were riding a motorcycle together near the end of last summer's holiday, preparing to cross the intersection on a green light.

However, they were struck by a wanted drug driver who ran a red light. The motorcycle was thrown forward upon impact, and the two women crashed heavily into a roadside utility pole.

The scene was horrific. The accident resulted in the woman suffering fractures in both legs, a brain hemorrhage, facial fractures, and several broken teeth.

Her nephew also sustained serious injuries, including fractured fingers, amputated toes, a broken leg from the thigh to the ankle (three sections), facial fractures, and broken teeth. Both are currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Hung Pai-liang, deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tainan City Police Department, stated that the wanted criminal surnamed Kuo drove through the intersection of Ziqiang Road and Highway 1st Street, Section 2, ran a red light, caused an accident, and attempted to flee. Upon seeing this, the police immediately stopped him and arrested him on the spot.

A Class II drug and other related evidence were found in the car.

The case was initially requested to be detained by the prosecutor, and Kuo was detained on September 1, 2025.

Currently, the Tainan District Prosecutors Office is indicting him on charges of unsafe driving, endangering public safety, and attempted murder.
