A night meant for festive cheer turned into a nightmare when a 7-year-old boy was critically injured by falling drones during a Christmas holiday show at Lake Eola.

The young boy is now fighting for his life in the ICU after being hit in the chest by a rogue drone at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The event was supposed to dazzle around 25,000 spectators with a display of over 200 drones forming holiday-themed shapes in the sky. But the celebration quickly turned chaotic when several drones malfunctioned, crashed into each other, and plummeted to the ground and into the lake.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), who permitted the event, has launched an investigation.

Sky Elements Drones, the Texas-based company behind the show, is currently under scrutiny as details emerge.
