The death of a 21-year-old resident of Ekibastuz, squeezed between the wagons of a freight train, is being investigated by a special commission of the labor department of the Pavlodar region and the police, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports. "My brother got a job a month and a half ago. As an intern, he had to work only with a mentor all this time. But on April 4 of this year, the mentor went on vacation, and Yernazar was sent to replace one. Without experience, he did not even have permission to work," said the brother of the deceased, Azamat Kazykenov.

He provided a video that captures the moment of the incident. The footage shows how the freight train stops, the young man passes between the trains, at this moment the train drives forward, and then abruptly backs and clamps Yernazar with the cars.

"According to the rules, the train driver can start moving only after the command of the train compiler, who is constantly between the cars, because he uncouples and hooks them. And Yernazar told him several times to stop, but the train continued to move erratically. This command was heard by the compilers of the neighboring trains, in the control room. According to colleagues, when the driver who squeezed Yernazar approached him, who was already lying on the ground, the brother said that he asked him to stop, but he replied that he did not hear anything, and just turned around and left," said the brother of the deceased, Azamat Kazykenov.

The causes and circumstances of the death of the young Ekibastuz resident are being investigated by a special commission.

"According to preliminary data, on April 4 of this year, the train operator of the Ekibastuz GRES-1 was squeezed between the cars. The reasons and circumstances are being investigated. A special commission is investigating the accident," the labor department of Pavlodar region said in response to an official request from a Tengrinews.kz correspondent.

The department added that more detailed information will be provided after the completion of the investigation. The police are now waiting for its results.

"The Ekibastuz police are conducting a pre-trial investigation into the violation of labor protection rules. A forensic medical examination has been appointed. Based on the results of the examination and the conclusion of the labor inspectorate, a procedural decision will be made," the press service of the Pavlodar region police department commented.

The relatives of the deceased guy are shocked by the behavior of some of his colleagues, who, having witnessed the incident, did not even try to help him. The video shows that the young man was still conscious for some time. One worker approached him, then another, but none of them called the medics.

"The ambulance was called by a friend of Yernazar, who was working at another station that day and found out about the incident only 10-15 minutes later. After the incident, my brother was on the territory of the enterprise for an hour and a half, then he was taken in an ambulance for another half an hour, where he died. All this time, no one even called us. We found out about Yernazar's departure only closer to lunchtime, when he was already in the morgue, while the parents were informed as if it was an ordinary case, they thought that my brother had received some kind of injury, and took him to the emergency room," said the brother of the deceased.

Yernazar's relatives demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice. According to them, more than 10 days have passed since Yernazar's death, and they also have questions for the investigation.

"Last week, a friend of my brother's found his watch at the scene of his death, why the police did not see it, is a big question. We also requested a video recording, but we were told that it had been seized by the police. A few days later, we saw this video on TikTok, who leaked it there is unknown. We can't get a recording of the conversation between the dispatcher, the driver and Yernazar. We are waiting for an honest and complete investigation of all the circumstances of Yernazar's death," said the brother of the deceased, Azamat Kazykenov.
