Re: Dashcam Captures Fatal Highway Accident
Any idea where in NM this occurred? I drive I-10 there a lot, and it looks like I-10. Although it's hard to say, because everything in NM looks like this.

Re: Dashcam Captures Fatal Highway Accident
Exactly. The car slowed and signaled and turned as if the oncoming truck was not there. Definitely a hypnotized driver, subconsciously driving by reflex. I believe most drivers recall driving a long haul and suddenly/shockingly not having a conscious memory of the past few miles. Same syndrome. Drivers will also drive subconsciously by reflex when they are nearing the end of a daily commute - heading into their driveway. It looks like the car in the vid was intending to pull into a driveway.

Re: Dashcam Captures Fatal Highway Accident
That happened to me once when I was quite young. I turned left into the path of a vehicle entering my driveway after work. Luckily it was a slow speed wreck, but it still destroyed both vehicles. I had no recollection of the oncoming vehicle. An insurance agent told me that reflexive driving close to home is quite a common way people wreck. That wreck of mine totally changed my situational awareness while driving in that setting. |
