CSX Freight Train Crashes into a Semi-truck Carrying a Military Army Tank
Yesterday afternoon in Goose Creek, South Carolina an 18-wheeler carrying a military tank gets stuck on the railroad tracks and struck by a CSX freight train. Numerous bystanders witnessed the incident. Officials reported that the truck, using a lowboy trailer to transport an M109 Paladin Howitzer tank, became stuck while crossing the tracks. The oncoming train collided with the truck, causing significant damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the driver refused treatment. |

Those lowboy trailers don't take too well to RR crossings. Driver should have looked at the damned sign! |

Clearly, we need to send more freight trains into battle...

I lived in Goose Creek right after Hurricane Hugo. No shock seeing something like this with the war history there and Charleston. That tank doesn't give like a vehicle and certainly is lacking crumple zones. I am shocked the locomotive wasn't instantly derailed.

Re: CSX Freight Train Crashes into a Semi-truck Carrying a Military Army Tank
It was a glancing blow, the locomotive hit the Paladin near it's rear wheel and spun it. The Paladin is maybe 30 tons, half the mass of an Abrahams tank. What was weird to me was the gun barrel spun into the locomotives several times but did not dig into the side of the engine. I posted a thread here where a local truck got spun like that by a passenger train and the truck spun back into the side of the passenger car digging a deep gouge and killing a female passenger. The gun didn't visibly bend and I didn't see damage. The Paladin is worth maybe 1.5mil USD, the train engine maybe around that, somebody is in big trouble |
