Agreed, the only one who's a huge idiot here is the cop. That was unprofessional, and stupid.

It'd be like me going to some biker, with a gun, screaming "state police," that shit will backfire on the cop if he keeps it up. Can't show a badge in civilian clothes? Then don't show your gun. Guns are not power, and if anybody thinks they are, then you are simply a criminal.

First off all, the bike rider displayed incredibly bad judgement. So the cop is just gonna assume the dude is all there? Secondly, the cop identified himself sufficiently (legally) in an instant takedown of a subject who displayed said recklessness. The cop is not "plain clothes," either; he is off-duty. And off-duty cops get killed in these inherently dicey situations even by other cops. But this is real life. He acted quickly. --...and I agree, jerks like that punk on the bike give all of us bike riders a bad name. It's fun to let 'er rip on some desolate road, but doing so in traffic puts everyone in danger for the sake of your macho jollies. I hope the dude has killed himself by now -- without killing anyone else -- and that cop got a bonus. At least he took his profession seriously even if he fast-forwarded past the badge part (both hands on a weapons presentation, pleases). Plus, he holstered it the instant control was established. Lastly, punk types don't know nor follow police procedure, and this guy was obviously a cop by every inch of his demeanor, appearance and responding to a threat. Let's not forget that if the biker had been doing nothing wrong, then perhaps, just perhaps, some guy showing up, identifying himself as police and holding you at gunpoint, sure... some consternation (assuming one discounts the witnesses in every other car). But that wasn't the case in Mr. Crotch Rocket's case at all.
