Re: Colombia - Bomb Defusal Gone Wrong
As cool as hollywood explosions look, in open area outdoors explosions the explosion itself rarely kills anyone, its the stuff the explosion sends flying that kills. If no big and sharp motorcycle parts flew at him, most likely he would've survived with severe burns even without the suit. The pressure from the explosion only tends to kill in really crammed and closed spaces like bunkers. Or alternately the bike would have to be so full of explosives that it takes out the whole street. Bit of a same thing with western films when people throw dynamite around, a stick of dynamite exploding out in the open is unlikely to kill anyone unless the stick is quite literally touching them when it goes off. If you bury that dynamite to the ground, now thats a different story. Anti-vehicle warheads like RPG-7 rockets also don't kill with explosion, the explosion is directed forward, which melts the metal inside the bomb and sends it flying forward like a hot spike or a stake. The stake works like a super-drill that penetrates the armor and sends sharp scraps of that armor inside the vehicle. Again the lethal effect is caused by the sharp shrapnel instead of the explosion. |
