China: Another Revenge Against Society.
Chengdu, Sichuan province: May 1: a car ploughed into pedestrians at the intersection of Jiannan Avenue and Tianfu Fourth Street in Chengdu, Sichuan province, at around 5:15pm; it immediately sped away without stopping and crashed into more pedestrians further down the block. The driver was seen speaking on the phone while holding a knife before he was arrested. Official news claims one person was killed with 11 others injured. As an aside, China has not signed the UN conventions on road traffic (1949 Geneva or 1968 Vienna), meaning Chinese driving licenses are not automatically recognized globally. |

The inverse is also true in that China does not recognize International Drivers Licenses or licenses from any other nations. In order to legally ride a motorcycle or drive or rent a car in China you must obtain a Chinese driver license or permit.

I've been to Chengdu (& other parts of China) & can confirm that there are a bunch of crazy motherfucking drivers there. There also appear to be a large percentage of Chinese that don't understand common etiquette such as standing in line or not rushing to get to the door of a plane as soon as it touches down. There was this little tiny flight attendant who reamed all these people out & forced them back to their seats when they tried to pull that shit. It was fucking hilarious.  |
