Re: Car Pulls Out Onto Busy Highway and Gets Rammed

Agreed. The driver of the car was timing for the gap in traffic, and at the point of impact had well and truly cleared the left lane where the truck driver WOULD have been if he hadn't been a stupid cunt who didn't know how to appropriately read traffic himeself and swerved into the side of the car.

Where I live, the rules are simple: Brake as best as you can, but DON'T SWERVE if you are in multiple-lane traffic. The moment you start jumping lanes, you put other drivers in danger, not to mention putting yourself in more danger if you should roll your car.

Too many cunts without brains and training on the road these days...

I don't exactly agree. I am a professional driver and have been exposed to endless hours of safety videos, meeting, driving simulators, and The Smith System and the combination of all this training boils down to this, always be aware of your surroundings, watch your speed, and leave an out. Slamming on the brakes is not always the best bet, sometimes you can steer your way around things with controlled braking.

I use super bright PIAA headlights in my vehicle. Gets you noticed. Also I keep the high-beams on during the day. Anything to get seen, esp. for times like the above scenario...

True enough for always being aware of your surroundings, though I also have done advanced driving courses as I am part of state emergency services where I live.

In the event that you are aware of your surroundings and can do a controlled brake and redirect without hindering surrounding traffic, go for it; but the rule taught to novice drivers (which the POV driver in the original video plainly was) is do NOT swerve in multiple lane roads. I can guarantee the POV driver in the vid was not aware of his surroundings. Had he been experienced at reading traffic ahead, he should have accurately judged the intent of the vehicle ahead. (This is assuming the driver knows what they are doing and is a competent driver.)

It is a situation I've encountered many times before: I'm in the fast lane, I see a vehicle that needs to cross from the opposite side ahead and they start to do so. I immediately check behind and sides whilst preparing to brake (and usually starting to brake a little) but in most situations the car ahead has judged the gap correctly and is well clear of my lane before I pass through. The couple of times I've had to brake hard has been, unfortunately, asian drivers who didn't see me at all and then panic and brake right in the middle of the lane; this is why I always have my foot on the brake when I see that situation being a possibility.

Re: Car Pulls Out Onto Busy Highway and Gets Rammed

maybe target fixation or panic as i don't see a reason to change lanes to the right where that car was obviously going to.
simple brake a bit and keep in lane and nothing would have happened imo.

That's pretty dead on. I've seen accidents happen like this one before. It's almost like they become so focused on the car turning in front of them that they become hypnotized by it.
