A good example of why using those stupid folded sheet metal post car lifts is an idiotic idea. Pay for and use a hydraulic center pole hoist.

I was taking the axle off mine once, had it up on the lift, with a huge bottle jack supporting the axle. But Capris have so little weight in the back that as soon as the last bolt came free, the car slowly pitched forward and I had to grab it the rear valence and just stand there like an idiot and shout for help. Glad it wasnt a Sunday  wont make that mistake again.

I've worked under up to 20-ton two-post lifts. I have preferred the two-post over drive-on lifts because it's a lot faster to set up and less shit in the way. Equipment maintenance and following sop saves the day every day. It appears that this suv is both set up wrong and the lift itself is missing parts. The end of the arms should have a foot that raises to mate with the lift points on the frame. The front right-side foot appears to be missing:  Also, I have old eyes, but that foot may have been missing the whole time. It looks like that may have been resting on the running board? Hard to tell:  What a sloppy shop regardless. I could pick out 50 other safety hazards. Sad really. |
