Car Hits Girl on a Crosswalk
Six thousand złoty and a five thousand złoty compensation for a 14-year-old girl injured in this accident. This was the verdict given to a driver who hit a teenager on a pedestrian crossing in Rzeszów. The girl still requires rehabilitation. The family of the injured girl and the prosecutor's office disagree with the verdict. The case is to be brought back to court. This accident occurred on December 18, 2023 in Rzeszów when at around 6 a.m., 14-year-old Daria was crossing a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Załęska and Rzecha street. The traffic lights were not working, the yellow light was flashing. She first crossed the first part of the lane, then entered the second. When she was already halfway across the lane, she was hit by a driver traveling at high speed. The speed was estimated by the expert we called at 76 kilometers per hour said the teenager's father, in an interview. The driver braked only after impact, a few dozen meters beyond the crossing. After a few minutes, the car reversed, as if trying to hide the braking distance. The police officers called based their note solely on his testimony.* According to his account, the girl entered the road in a prohibited place and this is also the information that the police officer included in his note. |

Re: Car Hits Girl on a Crosswalk
The accused of causing the accident is a professional soldier. The case was handled by the military prosecutor’s office. The court appointed an expert who decided that the driver was driving 60 km per hour. The parents ordered their own expertise – this showed 77 km per hour. Meanwhile, in front of the accident, there is a crossing through the tracks and there is a limit of 30 km per hour. And suddenly a sentence came. Parents learned in disbelief that the District Court in Rzeszów found the driver’s fault on March 6 and... fined him. According to them, the sentence was handed down in an injunction procedure – that is, without a trial and without questioning witnesses. In addition, the driver is to pay PLN 5,000 in compensation. “The justice system seems to have a problem in the assessment of this matter,” my father said in a Facebook post. Because I began to fear whether we could even count on justice... My father asks questions. Publicly, did the court rule so gently, because the perpetrator is a soldier? Did the fact that his wife is a policeman in Rzeszów have any meaning? The family objected to the verdict. He wants the case to be a wokanda. He wants the truth and wants a punishment that won't be a slap for the victim. The opposition was also made by the military prosecutor’s office. We disagree with this ruling. We support the family. We believe that the punishment is grossly low, which is why we will expect normal proceedings – says Krzysztof Ciechanowski, spokesman of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów. |

Re: Car Hits Girl on a Crosswalk
You always need to be on the lookout and especially when you’re in the crosswalk. She wasn’t even looking around. Had she been paying any attention to her surroundings she might not have been hit like that. Situational awareness is key to living a longer lifespan. |
