Re: Burnt Skin Off With Gas Canister Explosion
A devastating gas explosion in Port Harcourt has claimed the lives of three victims, including a father and his young daughter, who succumbed to severe burns at the hospital. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving neighbors and friends in mourning. Among the deceased is Ayo, a well-known phone repairer, and his daughter, who were both severely injured in the blast. Their deaths have left a void in the community, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss. In an interview at the hospital, Michael Tordue, a resident of the area, described the harrowing aftermath of the explosion. He revealed that a 16-year-old neighbor, who was also a victim of the blast, had already been laid to rest at a nearby cemetery. It was also said that 17 other persons has a high degree of injuries all over them and are currently receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the University Teaching Hospital. The blast occurred at a gas refilling shop and caused significant damage to nearby buildings. This incident is the latest in a series of gas and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) incidents in the state since 2024. According to SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the police command's spokesperson, the explosion was caused by a welder who was repairing a refrigerator while simultaneously refilling gas, leading to a catastrophic blast. |
