Brazilian Navy Tall Ship Hits Pedestrian Bridge in Ecuador
The Brazilian Navy's sailing ship, known as Cisne Branco, collided with a pedestrian bridge that connects the city of Guayaquil to the island of Santay in Ecuador. The accident happened on Monday, around 12:30 pm (2:30 pm Brasília time). The bridge spans the Guayas River, which connects Ecuador's largest city to the sea and is home to the country's main port. After the crash, a local tug, which was supporting the ship in the maneuver, ended up overturning. According to the Brazilian Navy and the Ecuadorian Navy, there was material damage, but no person was injured. It is not yet known what could have motivated the accident. |

Good to see the Brazilian navy bringing out their latest-tech ship. Rumor has it that it may have carrier pigeons for communication with other ships, and updated cannons in addition to port holes so the sailors can see how fast the ship is sinking.

During WWII, most German U-boat captains wouldn't sink any sailing ships. They thought it brought bad luck.

Nothing like standing on an upturned hull, with 3 ft. diameter blades of death spinning just feet from you. Out of all this, they had the worst day of it. |
