According to the Fire Department, the incident occurred in the Santa Maria neighborhood at around 11:50 am. The victim was performing maintenance on a pickup truck when the hydraulic jack, a piece of equipment used to lift the vehicle, fell over.

According to the military, the car was supported by wedges, which came loose during the service, which caused the skull of the victim underneath to be crushed.
