Helmet may have saved him. I always imagine the head as watermelon. So next time one goes riding without a helmet on, throw the watermelon on the concrete really hard, and you'll get an idea of what your head and brains will look like when it hits the road.

That was just pure luck. The helmet flew off his head at the moment he collided with the car. It was not properly attached.
