Terrifying dashcam footage shows moment £160k Bentley Continental GT hurtles through quiet village at 85mph and smashes head on into pensioner's car - sending it careering into a wall

A speeding Bentley Continental GT appears suddenly from nowhere and smashes into a 4X4 spinning the vehicle 360 degrees into a garden wall.

The dramatic 85mph collision, captured in this terrifying dash cam footage, happened along a 20mph road in picturesque Old Amersham in the Chiltern Hills.

Miraculously the driver of the Ford 4x4, pensioner Tim Edwards, 74, survived the horror crash.

The driver of the Bentley, Richard Plumb, 46, fled on foot but was traced by the blood left on the airbag of his car.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident and was jailed for 14 months with a driving ban of four years and seven months.

Speaking to MailOnline, Mr Edwards said: 'I pulled out when the road looked clear and all of a sudden, this Bentley came out of nowhere.

'I remember thinking 'he's driving fast' and a couple of seconds later he crashed into me.

'There was no time to be frightened or anything like that, it was over in a flash. I emerged from my vehicle without so much as a scratch so I was incredibly fortunate.

Mr Edwards, from the Buckinghamshire village of Speen, who was driving a Ford Kuga 4x4, added: 'I was in a pretty sturdy car which took the impact well otherwise it could've been a lot worse.

'In fact the other driver was more seriously injured, he'd left blood all over his airbag. He climbed out of the driver's side window, called a friend who arrived a few minutes later in another car and they drove off.

'I didn't say anything to him and he didn't say anything to me. These modern cars are able to contact emergency services automatically on impact and an ambulance arrived within five minutes followed by a fire engine and police.

'I've driven past the accident spot several times since, it hasn't really had too much of an effect on me luckily. Although I think the sentence handed out was far too lenient.'

As this exclusive video shows, Mr Edwards waits patiently as he yields to oncoming traffic along Old Amersham's high street.

With the route seemingly clear he pulls out only to be met by the sight of the Bentley hurtling at speed around a corner directly towards him.

The force of the impact shunted Mr Edwards' car backwards turning it 360 degrees as it burst through the garden wall of a nearby listed building.

He believes that if he had had his wife as a passenger, she would not have survived, and if he had not been driving a 4x4 style of car he would have been killed.

Mr Plumb, from Hazelmere, Buckinghamshire, admitted both charges at Wycombe Magistrates Court on October 16 and was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court last month.

It was in a 20mph speed limit zone. My guess is he was drunk but got away with that charge because he fled the scene
