yep, and be aware when jump starting a car with a crappy old battery. good idea to take a whiff first, to smell for hydrogen sulfide.

Would goggles had protected his eye?

Is he temp blind or it’s done done..? If the eye is blind, do they remove it? Never thought about this before.

He said the vision is forever gone. They don’t remove the eye unless the damage is very severe and the eye can’t be sewn and hold vitreous fluid or a synthetic gel. They do remove the eye for cosmetic purposes like a glass eye replacement or if there is an infection.

Re: Battery Explosion

Had plenty of batteries exploding in my career working with Industrial Equipment.
Parts flying around my head, even when 10 meters away of the batteries

Mostly stupid mistakes, like someone welding above an unshielded battery and some drops of molten liquid metal fell on it and exploding when melted trough ..

Or people accidentally making shorts when trying to disconnect a battery with unprotected metal tools touching both terminals... (Wrap some plastic tape around the exposed metal part you don't use)

Or like this guy, have a hot battery from overcharging (he touched it and decided to turn it off) and create a spark by disconnect one of the clamps from the terminals. Creating a minor spark this setting of a chain reaction

He should have turned the power off on the charger itself.. everyone who ever disconnected a battery under load knows it gives a spark

Even the slightest power consumer like the little Digi clock in your car can create a spark once you remove the cables of the first terminal.

And back to this case, the overheating battery. When too low on battery accid they can overcharge quickly, same with a old battery that doesn't want to hold charge anymore.

Overcharging causes the Battery Accid to Boil, releasing even more explosive gasses than a healthy battery while charging.

You should not even flick on your flashlight close to such situation, the internal micro spark from turning it on caused already enough explosions in such situations.

Also certain static electricity sparkling clothing from just the friction did caused explosions in the past.

I'm always freakingly on my nerves when I for the first time have to connect or disconnect a battery that's new to me... I just don't know what it does, and hate sparks since I withnessed soo damn many Explode on me

Ohh.. safety glasses definitely Help!
I should have been blind a dozen times without those f*ckers
