America's Most Dangerous Jobs

What I find interesting in this is police work is number 10. Yet if you ask the average officer they think they have the most dangerous job out there.

Re: America's Most Dangerous Jobs

what strikes me is that this is in the states alone, so they're saying there were 82 plane crashes in the statesalone where the pilot died.... that seems like a strange statistic cause that's nearly 2 fatal plane crashes per week, in the states alone.

yet statistically we are told flight is the safest way to travel. so somewhere something isnt right here

Re: America's Most Dangerous Jobs

There might be 2 plane crashes a week but that includes smaller bug smashers where there is only the pilot and maybe a few passengers, if any at all. But during that same period of time there are thousands of automobile accidents.

I think if you could list daily driver/commuter to the list, they would top it.

Re: America's Most Dangerous Jobs

good point, i guess commuters arent added to that, still seems like a stramnge statistic since it's USA alone, which is only a tiny fraction of the whole world. that still seems like a hole lot of plane crashes...

and the refuse worker statistic is a weird one too...

No shit, they don't even get out of their trucks here. They drive up to the can (recycle or trash), an arm extends out, picks up the trash and away they go. How dangerous is that?

Re: America's Most Dangerous Jobs

You know though, that statistic is kinda funny. As the refuse industry in the US is mainly controlled by the mafia, I wonder how many of those are real accidents and how many are some asshole who gets whacked and made to look like an accident,.

Yea, take a look at the show "The Sopranos" it's just like that. The mafia controls all garbage.

That is just a trick of numbers, really. Think about it like this: how many people do you know who have survived a car crash? How many have survived more than one? Now how many people do you know that have survived a plane crash? How many lived through more than one?

I'm surprised cops and firefighters aren't higher on the list too. I know this, they and teachers oughtta be the ones making millions of dollars a year, not some shithead actors who have their heads on another planet.
