Supposedly this kid accidentally hung himself while in this palm tree... I searched for it, couldn't find it here, so hopefully not a repost... |

Re: ~Accidental Hanging?~
That happens a couple times a year here in Arizona. Guys go to trim palm trees, and wind up dying from being pinned by all they stuff they have trimmed off. I don't know WHY people would even plant palm trees. They provide NO shade. They give no plant products like fruits. They need constant trimming and produce hundreds of pounds of waste material that they drop on the ground. Same thing with ornamental fruit trees. Why would you plant a tree that requires a lot of water, and get nothing in return for it? No fruit you can eat, NOTHING. I planted Aleppo Pines (Desert pines from Lebanon) and now I have nice shade trees I never have to water. |

Re: ~Accidental Hanging?~
this is from a couple of years ago Not a kid though and he survived. Mohd Zulhisyam Zulkifli, 23, who was hanging from a 3.7 meter coconut tree was rescued by a villager. He was then taken to Pendang Health Clinic to treat the wounds on his neck and arms before he was rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for further treatment. Zulhisyam said, he seemed to be dead and alive again after waking up while fainting while at HSB. According to him, he did not remember what happened before that even though he could stand as soon as his feet hit the ground. He said he only remembered the incident before he climbed the coconut tree involved. "While on the tree, I tied 20 coconuts to bring down. But, when I cut the bunch, the rope that tied the coconut stuck to my neck, "he said. According to him, the situation became uncontrollable causing him to hang on the tree. "At that time, I just remembered my death had arrived. I could also hear the voices of the people below asking me to say the word syahadah. "I managed to say it (kalimah syahadah) before fainting and as soon as I realized I was in the hospital," he said when met at his house in Kampung Kobah, Kota Sarang Semut, Pendang. |

Re: ~Accidental Hanging?~
Yes, I guess they DO produce coconuts. Also dates. But I have never seen either coconuts or dates on any urban palm tree. I know they have date palms in western Arizona, as I drive by them on I-10 and I-8 when I go to California, and there are date groves. Coconuts would be a big liability problem if the urban palm trees ever produced any. Can you imagine the lawsuits with coconuts dropping everywhere? Some old guy walking along gets conked on the gonk with a coconut? It would probably wind up here on DR in a video. |
