wow. thats unfortunate timing. considering the rear portion of that loader is solid counter weight. just a few seconds sooner and he would have completely missed it.

It's really very good observation, but the flag was supposed to be green in that point at that moment: the driver accelerated before the green flag in an attempt to correct the trajectory after losing the rear, but aquaplaned (as it happened to Sutil moments before) and lost completely the control: and this happened on the track way before the flag: the green flag was there to indicate that after that point the drivers can accelerate: if you look carefully, in the longer version of the video the marshal was initially waving double yellow flags, then switched to single green only once the tractor backed behind his post (about 8 seconds before the crash), which is what the marshall was supposed to do. The driver was technically still under double yellow flag, but he was just trying to keep the car on the track. Can't be called a mistake because under those conditions it was MUCH likely such an accident even to the best driver of F1, especially since the same thing occurred minutes before in the same curve.
It's obvious that something must be revised in the regulations, it's crazy that they were allowed to drive at 210+kmh (he crashed at 213 according to telemetry) while there were not only obstacles still in the proximity of the track, but even marshals working on the other car, so this could have ended much worse, and in the Formula 1 of 2014 this is unacceptable, with all the money that they waste for other shit.

Should have been a yellow flag there.

There were double yellows waved. The amateur camera footage shows double yellows, which changed to green when the recovery tractor got behind that post. There were double yellows still being waved for the track concerning the accident zone. Those flags were not visible in the amateur footage.

In all motor racing, a flag (green, yellow or otherwise) means that the flag is in effect once the car is past that point. This is very basic and fundamental rule in motor racing safety.

Imagine you come on a straight, and see a yellow flag at the next corner. Would you slow down right away? no. The flag means that there is danger after the flag until a green flag is passed. The same applies in corners, and in Bianchi's case, he might have seen the green flag. As a professional racing driver he would have understood that the danger area is still in effect, having seen the double waved yellows (via previous marshall post's flagman, yellow LED trackside display board and steering wheel/cockpit warning lights).

Re: The Accident of Jules Bianchi (F1 Driver) in Japan 2014

Update***
Jules Bianchi out of coma, breathing unaided.

Quote:
The Marussia driver, 25, suffered severe head injuries when he crashed in wet conditions into a recovery vehicle at the Japanese GP on 5 October.
The Frenchman has been flown from hospital in Yokkaichi to intensive care in Nice, where he arrived earlier.
However, his condition is still "critical" and he remains unconscious.
"Following a challenging period of neurological intensive care, we are able to announce Jules has made an important step," his parents Philippe and Christine Bianchi said.
"His treatment now enters a new phase concerned with the improvement of his brain function.
"Although the situation continues to be serious, and may remain so, it was decided that Jules was sufficiently stable to be repatriated to his native France."
They said they were "relieved" to confirm their son had been transferred to Le Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nice.

Bianchi suffered a diffuse axonal injury when he crashed into a tractor vehicle at Suzuka that was recovering Adrian Sutil's Sauber.
Marussia ran with one car the following week at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, where Lewis Hamilton dedicated his win to Bianchi.
His parents praised the "outstanding care" Bianchi received following the accident at the Mie General Medical Centre in Yokkaichi, adding they owed "an enormous debt of gratitude".
Since the crash, Formula 1's governing body the FIA has begun working on a plan for a 'virtual safety car' to force drivers to slow for warning flags in an accident zone.
Drivers tested such a car following first practice for the US Grand Prix on 31 October, however the system cannot be implemented immediately because of the complexity of the cars.
