AC Compressor Explodes when Car Owner Checking Things Under the Hood
Thai, S.T, 40, is checking the engine compartment of his Suzuki Swift when seconds later, the compressor suddenly explodes, sending a plume of smoke and debris toward his face and sending him staggered backwards. The incident left the man with multiple wounds on his face, neck, chest and legs. When dust, mud, and mineral scales build up on the condenser unit, the air conditioning system cannot leave the area with enough heat produced, forcing it to run continuously to cool the room. The compressor may overheat and explode due to the increased temperature and pressure. |

Re: AC Compressor Explodes when Car Owner Checking Things Under the Hood
A lot of the "top-off" kits they sell for people who's A/C system is not cooling, have propane, butane, or other flammable gases in the mix. I have seen several accidents on here where a fire started after the A/C system was apparently breached somehow during the accident. One of them on here actually blew the hood off, which is not what you would expect in a headon collision. There is nothing explosive under the hood, normally. The amount of fuel at the engine in most cars is pretty miniscule, unless a fuel line breaks and the fuel pump stays running. But then you usually see the fire on the ground from the liquid fuel leaking and burning. oh, well. Hope he didn't get burned too bad. |
