Up on the blind side of the truck. I don't think that was intentional.... pretty bloody hard to see anything on the far side of a truck when it's that small.

Disagreed. There was plenty of distance for the truck driver to see - and avoid - hitting the kid. I'd bet the driver was on his cell phone or distracted by something else.

I disagree back. Sao Paulo is infested with "bike lanes" allowed everywhere by the Mayor, even in DANGEROUS neighborhoods. People are dying every other day because of them.

Residents protest over 9 year-old boy's death in bike lane on SP

James was hit by a van on Sunday and succumbed to his injuries.

Neighborhood residents Matthew, in the East Zone of São Paulo, held a riot on Tuesday (18) because of the death of a 9 year old boy who was hit on Avenida Bento Guelfi over the weekend.

James was hit on Sunday (16). According to the family, it was hit by a van while on the bike path and succumbed to his injuries. During the protest, demonstrators burned tires and closed the avenue. The police tried to disperse the demonstration with tear gas, but residents continued to act.

Other people living in the region say the bike path, which is right in the middle of the avenue, is dangerous. She is signaled, it has crosswalk, and benchmarks separating the path of track cars, but, according to residents, many drivers flout the space.

"Lately they are doing splits. They come by the million. Buses and trucks as well. It is education, unfortunately. Drivers and cyclists alike. Estamo not prepared for it. I use [the bike path] with the greatest fear, "said Eneas Martins administrator, who lives in the region.

The Government of São Paulo said in a statement that will accompany the determination of the civil police to clarify the contradiction between the version of the family and the driver, who says the child left the bike path and crossed the track. The text also says that for the municipal administration, run over with biking invasion should be treated with the same severity pedestrian collisions with sidewalks invasion.

But in this case (the thread) I totally agree with you, unless the driver was having a stroke, or a heart attack, which wasn't the case, though.

Can't really tell from the camera angle but it looks like the truck driver actually chased the kid on the bike.

The kid stayed in the lines and the truck driver wandered into the bike lane. Hell, he was headed to what looks like the parking lot.

Unintentional but man, it's a wake up call to stay alert whenever you're behind the wheel.

It looked intentional. And even if it wasn't at the very least it is "Distracted driving", and jail time would be appropriate..
