6 People Injured when Car Backs Up into a Laundromat in Richmond Valley
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. The owner of Page Laundromat says he is in shock after a truck crashed into his building and injured six people on Sunday morning Bon Koo, who owns the laundromat in Richmond Valley, was cleaning up glass and clothes that were left behind following the car crash on Sunday. Tire marks could be seen on the floor of the building and on washing machines. "Somebody hit my store and hit the whole storefront," Koo said. "Then the police took out the truck." Security camera footage, which can be viewed above -- was able to capture the incident. Koo said the 74 year old driver of the vehicle came out of Top Tomato next door to his building and entered the vehicle. From the footage, the driver can be seen slowly backing out of a parking spot when the truck suddenly accelerates and crashes into the laundromat, through the glass storefront before stopping at the back of the building. Koo said that none of his employees were injured, but five of his customers were. He said he believes one customer suffered a broken elbow. Six patients were transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, according to an FDNY spokesman. Three patients suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and the other three patients suffered minor injuries. |
